Grab your sunglasses, your sense of adventure, and maybe a little extra sunscreen because we're about to dive into seven days of pure bliss, romance, and unforgettable moments.
Our journey began with a landing in haven of luxury: Sun Palace, and from there, it was nothing short of a love-filled rollercoaster through the heart of Cancun. So, buckle up as I take you on a whirlwind tour of our 7-day love affair with Cancun – where the sea is bluer than your favorite jeans, the sun is warmer than a hug from grandma, and the memories are as vivid as the colors of a Mexican fiesta!
Where To Stay in Cancun, Mexico
Day 1: Arrival and Check in at The Sun Palace
Upon landing in Cancun, my husband and I were eager to start our romantic retreat. We chose the all-inclusive luxury adults-only resort, Sun Palace, as our home for the week. Don't forget to try a refreshing welcome drink at check-in and explore the resort – each corner is a photo opportunity! We booked a honeymoon suite and after a seamless check-in, we spent the rest of the day basking in the opulence of the resort, enjoying the pristine pool, and savoring the first moments of our romantic escape.
Day 2: Exploring Downtown Cancun + Playa Delfines Beach
For our second day, we ventured into downtown Cancun using a local bus that goes from hotel zone to downtown area for 1 USD/trip. We explored the vibrant flea market, where I couldn't resist getting a fun hair braid later. In the evening, we headed to Playa Delfines beach, admired the iconic Cancun sign, and soaked up the sun and waves. The evening was dedicated to unwinding back at Sun Palace.
Tips for Day 2:
Bargain at the flea market for unique souvenirs.
Capture the perfect shot at Playa Delfines during the golden hour.
Day 3: Luxury Sailing to Isla Mujeres
One of the highlights of our trip was a luxury sailing experience with Cancun Adventures to Isla Mujeres. The island boasts stunning beaches with crystal-clear waters, making it an ideal spot for swimming, snorkeling, and enjoying water activities. It has charming boutiques, local markets, and eateries where you can experience the authentic Mexican culture. We explored the island by renting a golf cart. This allowed us to tour the island at our own pace, visiting attractions like Punta Sur, the southern tip of the island, with its scenic views and the Mayan temple dedicated to Ixchel, the goddess of fertility. The day ended with a romantic dinner back at Sun Palace.
Tips for Day 3:
Book the Isla Mujeres tour in advance for a hassle-free experience.
Wear sunscreen and make sure to carry it along to avoid sunburns.
Wear comfortable clothing and carry swimsuit for exploring Isla Mujeres.
Don't miss the opportunity to snorkel in the crystal-clear waters around the island.
Day 4: Lazy Day by the Beach
Day 4 was a leisurely affair. We slept in, indulged in a delicious breakfast at the resort, enjoyed lunch on the balcony, and spent a relaxed afternoon on the pristine beaches of Cancun.
Day 5: Explore Moon Palace
With our Sun Palace booking, we had access to the Moon Palace. We spent the day exploring this sister resort, indulging in its amenities, and experiencing the unique charm it had to offer.
Tips for Day 5:
Take advantage of the resort shuttle services for easy transportation between sister properties.
Try signature cocktails and cuisine unique to Moon Palace.
Day 6: Discovering Chichen Itza with Baktun Tours
This day was dedicated to history and adventure! We booked a tour with Baktun Tours to Chichen Itza, one of the 7 new wonders of the world. For 99USD per person, the tour included a native buffet experience, a visit to a cenote, and a tour of Valladolid Yucatan city. A truly enriching experience!
Tips for Day 6:
Bring comfortable walking shoes for exploring Chichen Itza.
Pack swimwear for a refreshing dip in the cenote.
Day 7: Relaxation and Hotel Extravaganza
Our last day was spent leisurely exploring the luxurious hotels in the Cancun hotel area. We took a stroll along the hotel zone's scenic boulevard and treated ourself to a farewell dinner at a beachfront restaurant for a perfect ending to your Cancun getaway. We truly relished the opulence and ambiance before heading back to Sun Palace to prepare for our departure the next morning.
Tips and Recommendations for the Perfect Cancun Getaway:
Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit Cancun depends on your preferences for weather, activities, and crowd levels. Generally, the most favorable time to visit is during the dry season, which spans from late November to April. October ended up being ideal for clean beaches and minimal seaweed for us. Plan accordingly for a pristine experience.
All-Inclusive Perks: Opt for all-inclusive resorts to maximize relaxation and indulge in culinary delights without worrying about additional costs. All-inclusive resorts often boast a range of amenities, including multiple restaurants, bars, pools, and entertainment options. This can enhance your overall vacation experience.
Isla Mujeres Sailing: Isla Mujeres is known for its laid-back and tranquil atmosphere compared to the bustling city vibe of Cancun. If you're seeking a more relaxed and peaceful environment, the island might be the perfect escape. Make sure to book this luxury sailing experience to Isla Mujeres for a day of adventure, romance, and breathtaking views.
Chichen Itza Tour: Don't miss the chance to explore Chichen Itza with a reputable tour company like Baktun Tours. The native buffet, cenote, and Valladolid city tour add extra value.
Explore Sister Resorts: If staying at Sun Palace, take advantage of the access to sister resorts like the Moon Palace for a change of scenery and additional amenities.
Leisure Day: Dedicate a day to pure relaxation. Sleep in, enjoy the resort's amenities, and take in the beauty of Cancun's beaches.
